Chapter 1 - The Anti Mage

Part 1: The Forbidden Knowledge

Magina was born in a hidden monastery in the mountains, where he was trained by the Turstarkuri monks. The Turstarkuri were a sect of ascetics who believed that magic was a corrupting force that should be avoided at all costs. They practiced a form of meditation that allowed them to tap into their inner energy, or mana, and use it for physical and mental enhancement. They also taught their disciples how to resist and counteract magic, using their mana as a shield and a weapon.

Magina was a prodigy among his peers, mastering the Turstarkuri techniques at a young age. He was also curious and adventurous, often sneaking out of the monastery to explore the world beyond. He was fascinated by the wonders and dangers of nature, but also by the civilizations and cultures that used magic for various purposes. He saw magic as a tool, not a curse, and wondered why his people shunned it so vehemently.

One day, he stumbled upon a hidden library that contained ancient scrolls and books about magic. He was amazed by the knowledge and secrets that were hidden there, and decided to study them in secret. He learned about the different schools and branches of magic, such as elemental, arcane, divine, and demonic. He also learned about the history and lore of magic, such as the origin of the Ancients, the war between the Radiant and the Dire, and the prophecy of the Mad Moon.

He became obsessed with magic, spending more and more time in the library, neglecting his duties and training. He started to experiment with magic, trying to cast spells and invoke powers that he had read about. He was careful not to be discovered by his fellow monks, but he also became reckless and arrogant, believing that he could master magic without any consequences.

But... He was wrong...

One night, he attempted to perform a ritual that would allow him to communicate with one of the Ancients. He had found a shard of the Mad Moon in the library, which he believed was a conduit for the Ancient's power. He placed it on an altar, surrounded by candles and runes. He chanted an incantation that he had copied from a scroll, hoping to summon the Ancient's voice and he succeeded. But instead of hearing a wise and benevolent being, he heard a dark and malevolent one. It was not the Radiant Ancient that he had hoped for, but the Dire Ancient that he had feared. The Dire Ancient sensed Magina's presence and his curiosity about magic. It spoke to him in a twisted and seductive voice, offering him more knowledge and power than he could ever imagine. It told him that magic was not a curse, but a blessing. A blessing that he could use to shape the world according to his will.

Magina was tempted by the Dire Ancient's words. He felt a surge of mana in his body, stronger than ever before. He felt a connection with the Mad Moon shard, which glowed with an eerie light. He felt a desire to accept the Dire Ancient's offer, to learn more about magic, to become more powerful, but he also felt a fear. A fear of losing himself, of betraying his people, of unleashing something evil and he resisted.

He broke off the contact with the Dire Ancient, rejecting its offer. He grabbed the Mad Moon shard and threw it away from him. He ran out of the library, hoping to escape from the Dire Ancient's influence.

...

But it was too late...

The ritual had triggered a chain reaction that caused the Mad Moon shard to explode. The explosion unleashed a wave of chaotic energy that swept through the monastery and beyond. The energy corrupted everything it touched, plants, animals, rocks, water and people.

The Turstarkuri monks were caught in the blast. They felt their mana being drained from their bodies, replaced by an agonizing pain. They felt their minds being twisted by dark thoughts and emotions. They felt their souls being torn apart by an evil force. They became monsters. They turned on each other, attacking with claws, teeth, and spells. They slaughtered each other in a frenzy of bloodlust and madness. They destroyed their home and their heritage in a matter of minutes.

Magina witnessed the horror that he had caused. He saw his friends and mentors being transformed into abominations. He saw his people being wiped out by his mistake. He saw his world being shattered by his curiosity. Then, he felt nothing, but a guilt. A guilt that he could not bear, that he could not escape, and so he ran.

He ran away from the monastery, away from the carnage, away from the Dire Ancient. He ran for days and nights, without rest or direction. He ran until he collapsed from exhaustion and grief.

He was found by a wandering sage, who took pity on him and nursed him back to health. The sage recognized Magina as a Turstarkuri survivor, and told him that he was not the only one. There were a few others who had escaped the disaster, scattered across the lands. The sage also told him that the Dire Ancient was still looking for him, and that he had to be careful.

Magina thanked the sage for his kindness, but decided to leave him. He felt that he had to find the other survivors, and warn them about the Dire Ancient. He also felt that he had to atone for his sin, and fight against the evil that he had unleashed. He vowed to dedicate his life to opposing magic, and destroying its sources and users. He vowed to become the Anti Mage.

He took a pair of blades from the sage, which he enchanted with his remaining mana. He also took a cloak and a mask, which he used to conceal his identity. He set off on his quest, traveling across the world, hunting down mages and magic artifacts. He became a legend, feared by many, respected by few, understood by none. Until then...

He became Magina, the Anti Mage.
